When the green flag fell Williams and Kuhn entered turn one with both of them wanting the lead, Williams edged out Kuhn coming off turn four.  This race started like any other, but very soon became a spectacular battle for the lead.  Williams and Kuhn battled side-by-side for the lead during the early part of the race, while Copley ran very close behind the two.  Ronnie Davis Jr. broke away from the remainder of the field and was able to catch the battling trio at the front.  Davis using the high line, joined in and made it a battle of four trucks. With the end of the race in sight, Williams and Copley were door-to-door. Their battle continued during the last 10 laps of the race. On the White Flag lap they were side-by-side with Copley pulling even on the back stretch and nosing ahead in turn 3. Coming off of turn four Copley was half a truck length ahead of Williams headed to the checkers.  Suddenly the 28 Ford of Williams began to pull even and at the finish line it was Williams by .06 of a second. Six hundredths of a second is an incredible finish! Jeff is next scheduled to race September 5th at Irwindale. July 24th

IRWINDALE, California — Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver, Ron Esau and PCM crew member Kevin Smith traveled to Louisville, Kentucky last week. The main reason was to learn about the new car set-ups. Miles and the guys spent a couple of days checking out the historic places in Kentucky like Churchill Downs and the old parts of Downtown Louisville. They also checked out the Kentucky Bourbon Trail with a tour of the Woodford Reserve Bourbon Distillery which provided some great country sites. On Friday AM before going to the Kentucky Speedway, They snuck in a tour of the Louisville Slugger Factory. It’s rumored that Miles is having an autographed version of the bat coming out soon. After the tour it was off to the Track to learn from Brian Ickler. Brian is running the NASCAR Camping World Truck series and also the ARCA RE/MAX series this weekend in Kentucky. Not to mention that Justin Lofton is there at the Kentucky Speedway as well to compete in the ARCA RE/MAX series. Justin treated everyone to dinner on Friday night and was then back to the track again for Saturday’s double feature. Brian Ickler had fourth quick to start the truck race. During the race he was running great till a “so-called pass” of the truck next to him at a restart. Brian had to start in the back and was working his way back towards the front but unfortunately got into an accident in the Truck race. But he still finished 21st overall. In the ARCA RE/MAX race, Brian set a new track record on his first lap then spun on lap two. To stay off the wall Brian forced it in to third gear and the transmission broke. With a transmission change he had to start dead last. Justin qualified fifth and did a great job to finish third. After starting in the back, Brian worked his way up to a fifth place finish. Both these drivers cut their teeth on paved track racing with Mile’s Dad, Paul Copenhaver. Recently Paul worked out a deal with 2004 Irwindale Late model Champion Doug McComb to drive the Car #88, which is the PCM Motorsports second car. Miles, in his last race on July 4th posted the most cars starting last after working on the car at an impound race. Miles worked his way through the field in the 75 lap event, passing ten cars, and then got spun out. With a pit stop being made to fix the car with about 25 laps to go, he started last to finish 6th. Miles is looking forward to get behind the wheel of the number #8 PCM Motorsports Ford this weekend July 25th a the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale with new team driver Doug McComb. Miles would like to thank all of his sponsors that make this racing season possible; Ron’s Rear End, PCM Motorsports, Apache Rentals, Eibach Spring, BCRI, Rapid Ron Racing, Inc., TUBBS Vinyl, Bill Loe Racing Engines, 10,000 RPM Clutches, WUI, http://www.racinaround.com/photos.html

Rob was 8th in his heat, and finished the main event in 10th, and currently sits 16th in IMCA points. Rob is scheduled to race next on June 27th, at Ventura. The following is f rom the Ventura Raceway website - VRA Sprint Cars once again headlined the night with 27 of the best 360 sprint cars in the west in attendance. Four heat races were run with wins going to Brandon Thomson, John Nock, Chris Wakim and point leader Kevin Kierce. There was one semi main run with the win going to newcomer to VRA Sprint Cars, but long time Ventura Raceway competitor Scott Hansen. The thirty lap feature was once again some of the best racing to be seen anywhere. Hotly contested racing was the norm from the front to the rear of the field. One of the best drives of the night came from Don Gansen who spun early and had to go to the back, but he then charged back to the front to finish a strong fifth. While Gansen moving forward the leaders were running fast and furious. Cody Kershaw and Guy Woodward were battling up front with Woodward bouncing off the turn two wall lap after lap. It was amazing that his right rear survived. At lap 22, Kevin Kierce and Cody Kershaw got together in turn three putting Kershaw’s quest for his first win on hold. Meanwhile, Woodward was still bouncing off the cushion and wall and finally he pushed the envelope too hard and spun in turn one. As all of this was going on a steady run was being made by John Nock and Brandon Thomson. Both drivers were coming to the front. Nock on the low side and Thomson on the top. When the final lap closed it was Thomson out front for the win followed by Nock, Steve Conrad, Chris Wakim and Don Gansen. Once again the crowd finished the night cheering for a young driver who has worked so very hard to get to the top. Kevin Kierce retains a 650 point lead over second place runner Troy Rutherford after 12 races.

At Irwindale, Auto Club Late Model 8 Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver finished 7th in the main event, and sits 11th in ACLM points. Miles is scheduled to race next on June 20th, in the AC Delco Super Late Model division at Toyota Speedway @ Irwindale.

June 12th

At Perris, race 6 was a two man battle between defending Classic champ Lenny Rodriguez on his brakeless 500 Triumph and 66 Frank Scileppi on his Vintage 250 Montesa. Rodriguez had the lead off the line, but Scileppi had the nimble 250 hugging the pole to take the lead away by the second lap. Scileppi ran out about 6 bike lengths ahead of Rodriguez and held that for the win.

June 9th

IRWINDALE, California — Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver makes it back to back 5th place finishes in the last two races at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. The first week back wearing the driver suit on May 23rd, Miles pulled out a valiant 5th place finish. Just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke, Miles drove to another 5th place finish for the May 30th Auto Club Late Models race. This time the car was even better than the previous race and Miles says he’s ready for the Irwindale WIN! It’s the last week of May. School will be out just around the corner, so you’d better head to Ukiah Speedway for your racing fix in before summer hits and vacation plans get in the way. The AABLM racers are a very competitive group and are always exciting to watch. We have had 3 different first place winners and 3 different contenders for championship points. These can change weekly so don’t miss a race, or you’ll miss a lot of action. Who could win this Saturday, night? Lovell is currently second in the points standing; he has had 3 top 5 finishes. Jim Stillman has also had 3 top 5 finishes with 2nd being his best finish. Let’s not forget Forrest Kuecker, who sits 4th in the points with 2 top 5 finishes, and Kevin Estep 3rd in the standings who won opening night at Ukiah Speedway. AABLM points leader Kevin Ostern would like to win his 3rd race of the year and hold onto his points lead. This is just a sample of the talent, and any AABLM driver could take the lead during our 75 lap main event. It’s a little too soon in the season to be counting points, but it’s fun. The 3rd 4th and 5th place in the point standings are only separated by 2 points

LANCASTER, California — Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver finishes 5th in his first race back after suffering a broken arm a few weeks ago. His doctor gave him the green flag to go racing again and Miles answered by qualifying 5th in the Auto Club Late Models 50 lap main event Saturday night at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Despite his arm not quite 100%, Miles jumped into the PCM Motorsports #8 race car on Friday for practice. The crew did an excellent job of making subtle changes to the car so that Miles wouldn’t have to work as hard getting the car through the turns at full speed. During Saturday’s practice, the crew continued to make the car more comfortable for Miles and they didn’t worry so much about the lap times. Apparently the crew did a good job and combined with Miles’ tenacity to go fast, the team and driver earned a 5th fastest for the race. Now the focus of the team was on Miles and how well he’ll hold up for 50 laps. Miles, who started racing quarter midgets at 4 ½ years old and was born to race, told everyone his arm is good to go and he’ll even help the crew load the car up at the end of the night with all the pit boxes too. With some good old fashioned, hardnosed racing Miles managed a top 5 finish for the race. Now it seems next week can’t get here soon enough for Miles since he’s back in the hunt. Miles would like to thank all of his sponsors that make this racing season possible; Ron’s Rear End, PCM Motorsports, Apache Rentals, Eibach Spring, BCRI, Rapid Ron Racing, Inc., TUBBS Vinyl, Bill Loe Racing Engines, 10,000 RPM Clutches, WUI, www.racinaround.com.

April 18th

Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver has had a rough two weeks. During last week’s Late Model race, he was running a solid top sixth position but was put into the wall. Then last Saturday night during the Super Late Model race, Miles ended up with a broken arm. He was trying to avoid a car spinning down in front of him when another car rolled off the back and into Miles’ right front wheel which caught his arm in the wheel and broke it in two places. On Sunday Miles had surgery where the doctors added metal rods as an internal splint to hold the bones together for proper healing. Miles says he should be ready to race in three to four weeks. Miles would like to thank the crew for stopping by at the Hospital Saturday night to visit with him. The PCM Motorsports Inc. Late Model #8 Ford is getting a new front clip. And the Super Late Model #18 Ford is going to be ready before Miles is. To note, Miles would like to thank all of his sponsors that make this racing season possible; Ron’s Rear End, PCM Motorsports, Apache Rentals, Eibach Spring, BCRI, Rapid Ron Racing, Inc., TUBBS Vinyl, Bill Loe Racing Engines, 10,000 RPM Clutches, WUI, www.racinaround.com.

April 11th

Round 2 of the Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series at Lakeport, found 79 Forrest Kuecker finishing 5th. He is the AABLM points leader, right back where he belongs.

Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver brought the # 8 Late Model Ford Fusion home in 13th. Justin Lofton finished 8th in the #88 Late Model Ford Fusion.

April 4th

28 Jeff Williams qualified faster than any Southwest Tour Truck, or King Taco Super Truck tonight. With a four truck invert, he started on the outside of row two, and had the lead by the end of lap two. With a full straight-away lead, at lap fifteen, the team suffered a mechanical issue, causing the first DNF in four years. No question Jeff and the 28 Ford F-150 will be destroying the competition this season.

18 Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver finished 14th and 18th in the Super Late Model Twins.

79 Forrest Kuecker opened his '09 Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series season at Ukiah with a 4th place finish. Awesome work Forrest.

18 Senior Dwarf Kevin Alverson brought home yet another podium finish with a third. 13 IMCA Modified Rob Green had a pretty rough go tonight, and 19 VRA Sprint Brandon Thomson continued moving in the right direction.

March 28th

18 Kevin Alverson won the Senior Dwarf Main Event tonight at Ventura, and currently is 4th in points. Awesome run Kevin, and well deserved.

Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver brought the # 8 Late Model Ford Fusion home in 6th. Daniel DiGiacomo finished 13th in the #88 Late Model Ford Fusion.

March 15th

Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver won the last event at Havasu 95, holding off Young Austin Murphy of Lancaster. For Miles, his first time at this track, he won wire to wire. Well Miles must have figured something out because at the race on March 15th, Miles “Pistonhead” Copenhaver not only won the dash but also the main event! Miles won in exciting fashion with 3 laps to go in the feature he passed Austin Murphy for the win. With PCM Motorsports #8 Miles is two for two. Ron Esau making his debut at the Havasu 95 Speedway drove into the corners deep in qualifying and started 9th but quickly moved up to 4th behind Austin Murphy, Miles Copenhaver and 14 year old Jacob Bishop. The 54 year old Esau was having a great time pressing the young guns, but with 12 laps to go, the #88 cut a tire and had to pull off into the pits. Miles was running second and had to make his move for the lead with three laps to go, he set up and made a clean pass to overtake Austin for the checkered flag. This victory for Miles proves he has what it takes to race because also in the field was a three time local champion, Bobby Kearns, the I-10 Speedway champion, Mark Schriner and Las Vegas Champion, Dustin Ash. In an effort to “pay it forward”, Miles in the PCM Motorsport #8 Ford had loaned out shocks and various other parts to help several of the local competitors run better. Miles and Ron will be running next at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale’s opening night March 21th.

Get ready race fans, Ron Esau (Inaugural NASCAR Southwest Tour Champion) will be driving the PCM motorsports number 88 Ford late model race car on April 11th at the Havasu 95 Speedway. This idea came about during a meeting with the newly formed alliance (Rapid Ron Racing, Inc. and PCM Motorsports) before testing on March 7th, 2009 at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, CA. Ron Esau and Paul Copenhaver agreed that the size of the field at the Havasu 95 Speedway could use some help with more cars making the event. By adding another car to the field, young drivers like Miles Copenhaver, who won his first main event in a late model race car at Havasu 95 Speedway, can gain more racing experience.  This is a perfect opportunity to bring in a veteran driver like Ron Esau. For the fans and the other competitors, it’s a win/ win situation. PCM also decided to help sponsor the event by making the normal 30 lap race into a 50 lap event and adding some more prize money to the purse. Ron says he plans on giving Miles a behind the wheel training session but Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver plans differently. Miles knows that the regular Havasu 95 Speedway drivers are going to help him give Ron some lessons on racing etiquette at their home track. This should be a real door to door fight for the win event. The test session at Irwindale’s Toyota Speedway was really good for both Mile’s and Ron’s super late race cars. Ron Esau with Ed Bernardo of BCRI, and Crew Chief Kevin Clark are going over every nut and bolt on the number 56 super late model race car for the March 21st opening race of the season. And PCM is preparing the two Late Model cars for the PCM Motorsports 50 lap race at Lake Havasu City, AZ. Go to www.havasu95speedway.com for details on a full field two day event next Saturday and Sunday. Also, mark your calendar for March 21st opener at Irwindale, where Miles and Ron will run a 100 lapper in the super late model event. www.toyotaspeedwayatirwindale.com.

February 28th

BLYTHE, California — One week after Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver first victory, in Late Model , he had a great learning experience. Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway was the next stop for his prep for the 2009 season However the series points leaders found themselves having to deal with an unexpected source of competition at the Havasu 95 Speedway race from Miles Copenhaver. The 19 year old driver, in the Paul Copenhaver Motorsports Ford, is planning to run the 2009 Super Late Model Series at the Toyota Speedway At Irwindale and was looking for some pre season seat time. The team had a one race sponsor deal to cover the trip to Lake Havasu City with a contingency that said a top three finish would earn them a trip to this Saturday night's race in Blythe. Copenhaver won the feature race that night following a close finish over Austin Murphy. Miles Mentor, Ron Esau explained to Miles this is not going to be easy to go to someone else’s back yard and run with them and win again. Miles did a great job from the first practice season being smoked by the local boys, telling the PCM crew what was needed to make him go better. After PCM team and Miles Dad Paul Copenhaver made the rear adjustments Miles had the working great. Miles Qualified 3rd and finished 3rd in the first of twin 25 lap races. The track cooling down made the crew to loss to pass the two cars in front of him. For the second twin 25 the PCM Team made more adjustments to the car and after a few jack rabbit starts Mile car was really good getting off the hard turn four corner and got in the point leader and first race winner and Mark the local point leader spun out and Miles was the cause of the yellow and had to go to the back of the back. February 21st

Miles “PistonHead” Copenhaver, 19 year old son of Paul Copenhaver of PCM Motorsports wins his first trip to Hasava 95 Speedway. Young Gun Miles with the Team PCM Motorsports had a one race deal with sponsors to travel to Havasu 95 Speedway. With Help from Ron Esau (Inaugural 1986 NASCAR Southwest Tour Champion) and the factory PCM Motorsports Ford, Miles was told by sponsors with a top three finish they would have a deal to travel to Lucas Oil’s 1-10 Speedway Race February 28th and that night eat at the Mudshark Brewing Co. No top three the team was eating at a fast food establishment. Miles was third fastest, finished second in the dash to the Track Record holder by a nose then WON the Main event wire to wire. At the finish Miles yelled on the radios thanking the crew and we’re going to the Mudshark. Miles was excited about his first Late Model Stock car win and told the crew a year of hard work and we finally got the “W” and this will be the start of many more. Miles did a great job in the after race interview, with mentions of all the sponsors, WUI,BCRI, PCM Motorsports, Ron’s Rear Ends, Eibach Springs, 10,000 RPM Clutches, TUBBS Vinyl and the entire PCM Crew members and family. Miles also thanked the fans of Havasu for coming out on a cold night. This week Miles and PCM Crew will be getting the car ready for a trip to Lucas Oil’s 1-10 Speedway and preparing to test a Super Late for Toyota Speedway at Irwindale opening night March 21st.
